Words and Songs from Women in Norwich

The line up is Kimberley Moore, Karen Reilly, Sian Croose, Lauren Dove, Suki Silver Tongue, Mary Lovett Helen Ivory, Abby Bourke, Shannon Clinton-Copeland, Harmonium.

Helen Ivory is a poet and visual artist. She edits the webzine Ink Sweat & Tears and teaches online for NCW. She is working on her sixth collection for Bloodaxe Books: How to Construct a Witch, which will appear in 2024. She recently ran some poetry reading workshops on the subject of the witch for Tilted Women.

Sian Croose is a singer, teacher, conductor, composer and performance maker with over 35 years of experience creating and directing music projects. This venue and the women Sian has met here and sung with over the years, have been the foundation of pretty much all her work.

Harmonium is an experiment in vocal sound created by layering women’s voices with hypnotic interlocking rhythms and harmonies. Written by Sian Croose, the pieces create an immersive sound-world, designed to be transporting to listen to, and a joy to sing. The singers are: Helen Pallet, Jennie Fisk, Fran Flower, Anna Sims, Mary Lovett, Caroline Davison, Kimberley Moore, Claire Kidman, Marian Fox, Tracy Sharp, Saffron Paffron and Sian Croose. Harmonium is inspired by the work of Meredith Monk, another pioneering woman and inspirational vocal artist.

Lauren Dove specialises in Soul, Gospel and Blues. Lauren fronts The Dove and Boweevil Band and has written two albums. The Dove and Boweevil Band reached number 2 in the IBBA Blues charts with their album This Life. Tonight is a rare performance for Lauren as a solo artist. Her influences include Eva Cassidy and Aretha Franklin.

Abby Bourke, in their second year at UEA studying English Literature and Creative Writing. Does a little bit of singing here and there, when they’re not busy writing!

Suki Silver Tongue straddles the worlds of storytelling and poetry to dream up lusciously lyrical and sublimely subversive versions of classic tales.

Karen Reilly is lead singer with The Neutrinos and a founder member of KlangHaus; performers and producers of immersive sound, art-rock, cinematic, full on and pin drop quiet shows sometimes in complete darkness. “Reilly is very theatrical in her work. Shannon Clinton-Copeland is an Ireland-born England-raised poet, writer, creative freelancer and researcher in early modern literature. Her poetry explores themes of radical joy, wonder, art, home, race, nationality and personal identity.

Mary Lovett is a singer and will be performing with her most recent work: Liberace Fibonacci. This is an eccentric musical automata made from salvaged piano parts and a vintage stereogram. Sounds are triggered by a variety of digital sensors which satisfyingly combine manual hand cranking and digital technologies in a curious and slightly unpredictable way.

Kimberley Moore is bringing these artists together for this event. She writes and performs, often with semi-autobiographical lyrical folk songs with her pure and ethereal vocals. “The wonderfully creative and prolific Kimberley Moore”
